DESIGN OF A CAREER RECOMMENDATION SYSTEM FOR STUDENTS OF DHARMA BAHARI VOCATIONAL SCHOOL SURABAYA USING THE CONTENT-BASED FILTERING METHOD

Abstract
SMK Dharma Bahari Surabaya is a vocational high school offering various specialization programs aimed at producing graduates ready to enter the workforce in their respective fields. However, many students still struggle to determine their career paths after graduation, creating a risk of employment that does not align with their interests, talents, and competencies. This issue highlights the need for a system capable of providing personalized and targeted career recommendations. Therefore, this study aims to design and develop a website-based career recommendation system for students at SMK Dharma Bahari Surabaya using the Content-Based Filtering method. The system utilizes student interest data—gathered via a questionnaire based on Holland’s RIASEC theory and a Likert scale—to identify interests. This data is then processed using Content-Based Filtering, incorporating TF-IDF weighting and Cosine Similarity calculations to generate relevant career recommendations. The research results demonstrate the successful development of the career recommendation system using Content-Based Filtering, enabling it to provide recommendations based on interest assessments derived from Holland’s (RIASEC) theory. Black Box testing confirms that all system functions operate in accordance with functional requirements. Additionally, the system assists guidance counselors in providing career recommendations to students and supports the implementation of career guidance programs at SMK Dharma Bahari Surabaya.
